Australian Chapter of the World Peace Bell

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Cowra is the home to the Australian Chapter of the World Peace Bell, located in Civic Square. The Australian World Peace Bell is a replica of the one that stands on the forecourt of the United Nations Headquarters in New York and is made up of coins from 103 member countries of the United Nations.

Known colloquially as the Peace Bell, Cowra was awarded the Bell in 1992 in recognition of its unique and long-standing contribution to world peace and international understanding. This is an honour usually reserved for capital cities.

At the site of the Peace Bell, you can listen to the informative audio stream and learn the story of the Bell and its significance to our community.
