See where Sydney and Australia all started

$45

Experience Sydney from a local perspective. Explore all the city icons, like The Rocks, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Sydney Opera House, but explore them in a way most tourists don’t. You will take the least-walked path on this Sydney walking tour, and meander through this fascinating city’s tumultuous history and into the modern day.

This historic Sydney tour makes its way along “The Tank Stream”, the blue line that runs through the city (you’ll find out what this line means on the tour!). You’ll go through Hyde Park, retracing the steps that saw a small stream become the life source for a new country. You’ll hit up the major sights, including the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Angel Place, Parliament House, the Mint, and the Barracks, but in a way you wouldn’t experience on your own.

This Sydney tour is a warts and all account of the birth of modern Australia and the legacies left from decisions made and the people who made them: those who won, those who lost, and everyone in between. Factual, funny, irreverent, and anecdotal – this Sydney walking tour is a great local experience packed full of Sydney history!

Explore the Rocks with Sydney Urban Adventures

$69

Wind your way through the back alleyways, up the steps and back in time to uncover the stories and people who shaped this fledgling colony. Hear all about Sydney’s oldest pubs, the first breweries, amazing convict tales, and a rebellion over the most precious drink of all… rum!

As Australia’s first neighbourhood, the Rocks was literally cut from the sandstone cliffs that rise above Sydney Harbour. On this Sydney walking tour, you’ll carve out a narrative of this neighbourhood’s history, starting with the convicts that were forced to settle here and their amazing tales of survival and entrepreneurship.

Along the way, you’ll make pit stops at some classic local pubs in the heart of the Rocks. From there, you’ll explore the once seedy back alleyways, which today are very safe, of course, but still feature many great photo opportunities.

After a drink at another historical pub, you’ll delve deeper into some of the unique and most off-the-beaten-track parts of the Rocks as you visit an archaeological site like no other in Australia. You’ll finish up our Sydney tour by enjoying one last beer back near where the tour began.

Experience Kings Cross with Sydney Urban Adventures

$45

Spend two hours immersed in the tumultuous history of Kings Cross, as they guide you through tales of fame and fortune, murder and drugs, and mysteries and romances on this Sydney tour with a twist!

You’ll visit a number of different spots important to the neighbourhood on this Sydney Kings Cross tour. Standing on the site of one of Sydney’s greatest unsolved mysteries, you’ll hear of the days of the infamous razor gang and sly grog, of the deviants and bohemians, and how the charismatic Cross came to be.

Traditionally home to Sydney’s artistic and bohemian lifestyles, The Cross began its life as the centre of sophisticated society before transforming through its host of passionate and deviant lifestyles. Now, Kings Cross is a lively, vibrant, and sometimes controversial Sydney hotspot not to be missed. During this Sydney night tour, you’ll grab a drink at a Kings Cross Bar and settle in for some more enthralling tales.

This walking tour of Sydney’s richest social and cultural area is engaging and informative, and those interested in crime and mystery will be thoroughly fascinated by the culture and history of The Cross.

Explore a different side of Sydney's history

$45

Sydney is one of the world’s great gay and lesbian cities. Learn about the gay governor of New South Wales whose conduct scandalised the British Empire, the gay bushranger who was hanged at Darlinghurst Gaol, and the “most violent woman in Sydney,” a tough lesbian criminal who carried a knuckleduster in her handbag and stole male gangsters’ girlfriends.

Starting out at Hyde Park Barracks, you’ll explore the eastern part of the city near Hyde Park and the Botanical Gardens before your Sydney tour heads toward the bright lights of the gay strip on Oxford Street. Your local guide will share dark tales of organised crime, corrupt cops, murder, and Oxford Street’s ultimate transformation into the centre of gay life in Sydney in the 1970s.

And, of course, a tour of gay and lesbian Sydney wouldn’t be complete without a look at the city’s famous Mardi Gras — how it started, why it began, and how it’s become one of the largest events on Sydney’s festival calendar.

The tour finishes at a friendly gay pub where you’ll have a drink on them and rub shoulders with locals. This tour is designed for everyone — gay, lesbian, or straight.

Walk the light

$45

Vivid Light is one of the most exciting festivals to fall on Sydney. After dark, the city’s famously photogenic harbourfront transforms into an open-air art gallery, with a wonderland of light art sculptures, innovative light installations, and grand-scale projections blasted on downtown buildings.

It’s the largest festival of its kind in the world, which is what makes it awesome… but also a bit frustrating. It’s easy to just follow the mob and wander aimlessly — which is why they’re going to give you the local treatment! Don’t get lost in the crowd of thousands; instead, join their local guide as they show you the hidden and lesser-known installations down back alleyways and around dark corners.

Vivid Light takes place all around Circular Quay and The Rocks, two of the most famous districts of Sydney, both bursting with stories to be told. So, in addition to checking out the fabulous installations of Vivid, they will share the tales that have shaped these areas. As you check out some of the coolest light-themed artwork in the world, you’ll also learn the history behind the district, and discover how Sydney became the place it is today.

Explore Sydney's small bar scene with us!

$55

This food and drink tour of Sydney will give you a literal taste of all the city has to offer! Over the course of the evening, in a small group, you will visit three different small bars, all tucked away in basements, back alleys, old horse-cart carriageways, loading docks, and other hard-to-find corners. You’ll spend about 45 minutes in each venue, giving you plenty of time to sample some snacks and/or enjoy a drink, depending on what’s on offer at each place.

In between stops, you’ll be guided along some of Sydney’s most interesting streets, where you can discover other venues, see fantastic street art, spy intriguing spaces, and learn where the locals really go after work hours.

You’ll start the tour at the glass dome in Wynyard Park, the site of the old military barracks where the New South Wales Corps marched to arrest Governor Bligh in 1808 — known later as the Rum Rebellion. In the mid-1800s, it then became a site for shops and homes, with a recreational square. The tour will end in the Kent Street area, after three hours of exploring the city centre via the nooks and crannies hidden away in downtown Sydney.
