Welcome to Gunnedah! With rich agricultural vistas and breath-taking landscapes that gave rise to many of poet Dorothea Mackellar’s works, including the iconic poem ‘My Country’, Gunnedah is the hub of one of Australia’s richest agricultural regions – the Liverpool Plains. The ‘Koala Capital of the World’ , Gunnedah is known for its koalas that are sustained by the large variety of eucalypts growing throughout the shire.

Gunnedah is a great spot to base yourself and explore the North West region. Take a drive out into the country, experience the small rural villages out yonder, meet a local, see fat beef cattle and sheep grazing the pastures and endless fields of Sunflowers, Sorghum, Wheat, Cotton and vibrant Canola in season. Pack a picnic lunch and take a day trip to one of the nearby National Parks just an hour down the road or head to Lake Keepit, it’s a fisherman’s paradise!
