Gwabegar

Rural

The town of Gwabegar is 139 kilometres South West of Narrabri. It is located deep in the Pilliga Forest, which is key to its existence known as the “Heart of the Pilliga”, the largest naturally forming Cypress Pine Forest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Enjoy the drive from Narrabri to Gwabegar that features rapidly changing landscapes from ranges to sweeping plains. The small town has a post office, general store, sports courts and a new community technology centre.

Once home to 12 sawmills, its koala and sleeper cutter colonies are now main attractions. Free camping is available at Anzac Park.
