It’s time to explore this historic town, the northern gateway to the Highlands and home to Australia’s first iron works. It is an excellent example of a country town which has managed to retain its historic beginnings, with old and new, side by side.

The gateway to the Southern Highlands, Mittagong lies between the volcanic peaks of Mount Gibraltar and Mount Alexandra, 110 kilometres south west of Sydney.

Discover the best in contemporary Australian crafts at the Sturt Craft Centre, enjoy a picnic at Lake Alexandra or drive to the top of Mount Gibraltar to enjoy excellent lookouts and several short walking tracks.
