Wombarra

Suburb

The rural and residential suburb of Wombarra is 20 kilometres north of Wollongong, and gets its name from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘Black Duck’.

Spurred by coalmines in the area, the village grew significantly in the 1880s. Today its major features include Wombarra Beach, Scarborough Beach, Illawarra Park and Wombarra Sculpture Gardens.
