Black Caviar Statue

Entertainment Venues

On 24 October 2013, history was created when Nagambie became home to the life size bronze statue of the world famous mare Black Caviar. The champion mare is the fastest horse in the world, undefeated in all her 25 races.

Black Caviar was born on 18 August 2006 at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Victoria. She grew up on the Goulburn River property and then went to Swettenham Stud in December 2007 for a ten-week yearling preparation. She was then sold on behalf of breeder Rick Jamieson to her owners, a syndicate of five couples. Black Caviar was trained by Peter Moody and ridden by jockey Luke Nolen in 22 of her 25 wins.

The mighty mare, affectionately known as ‘Nelly’ retired on 17 April 2013 and now enjoys life as a broodmare.
