12 Nov 2016 to 12 Nov 2017
The South West Petanque Championships are on again in November 2016 at Whicher Ridge Wines, a short drive south of Busselton. It is the only Triples Competition of it’s kind held annually in the Busselton – Margaret River area and is must-visit destination for petanque players and spectators alike.
Pétanque (pronounced ‘petank’) is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden jack and is similar to bocce (Italy).
It is a truly inclusive outdoor game, allowing people of all ages, all degrees of mobility and all levels of skills, to play together. It also just happens to be one of the fastest growing participant sports in the world and it well become an Olympic sport in 2024 if Paris host the Games.
With a number of state and national petanque champions playing over the weekend, it’s also a perfect opportunity as a spectator to see the game in action for yourself.
Players need to register as early as possible to guarantee a spot as numbers are limited. (Individuals are very welcome to enter as they will be able to place you in a team for the competition!)
