Legacy of Banks and Solander: Botanic Art Group

Galleries, Museums and Collections

A series of paintings focusing on light, patterns and the birds and animals of Black Mountain by the natural history illustrator Frank Knight. His aim is to show the natural Canberra environment, not as accurately as his previous illustrative work, but rather more loosely depicted.

The artist worked for many years as an illustrator for CSIRO and illustrated the iconic “A Field Guide to the Birds of Australia” by Graham Pizzey. He was awarded a Churchill Scholarship and a CSIRO Study Award and has studied with illustrators in Europe, Britain and the USA.
