National Electoral Education Centre

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Experience Australia’s federal electoral system and the power of Australia’s democracy at the National Electoral Education Centre by the Australian Electoral Commission, located in the heart of Canberra’s parliamentary triangle.

Using experiential learning to engage and inform, one of AEC’s electoral experts will guide your school group through a 90-minute program. Explore the history of democracy and voting. Meet DemocraBot and be immersed in DemocraCity, an interactive virtual world, to learn about representation, enrolment, and voting. Experience the electoral process through programs aligned to the Australian Curriculum (House of Representatives, Eligible Elector, Referendum, Senate) where students run their own election. They will vote, count votes, and declare election results, while taking on the role of voters, ballot box guards, scrutineers and polling officials.

It’s an educational experience for visitor of various ages, interests and levels of knowledge.
