The genre of still life tells a story; it is an expression of one’s time and place. An ordinary, very familiar object has meaning, the belonging I have inherited from my parents and grandparents become a connection to their story.
To lose this connection through the loss of these familiar objects, as sadly has happened to many people over the summer, the story must almost begin again.
It was impossible not to be affected by the drought and the bush fires and now the pandemic which has stopped everything in its tracks.
With some of these pictures I have tried to pose a question, with others it is simply a response to my small world in the peace and solitude of my own microcosm.
In a time of uncertainty, my hope is that these works communicate stillness and hope and an appreciation for the everyday.
