Benjamin Bagby’s heroic solo performance of Beowulf is the achievement of a lifetime. Composed in the 8th century and written down around the year 1000, Beowulf is the oldest and greatest Anglo-Saxon epic, a tale of dragons, ogres, conquests and extraordinary feats that were once part of public entertainment. In this much celebrated performance Bagby dons the mantle of the bard, accompanying himself on the harp as he sings the first third of the epic up to the celebration after the death of Grendel. The performance is in the original Anglo-Saxon language, with modern English supertitles.
