DESIGN Canberra presents a tour of the 2020 residential house of the year, Lemon Wedge House designed by Philip Leeson Architects.
The Australian Institute of Architects (ACT) awarded Lemon Wedge House the prestigious 2020 Malcolm Moir and Heather Sutherland award for residential architecture (new houses). The house was commended for its ‘bold silhouette with a prominent roof form that is highly visible to the public frontages.’
Sited within the Radburn town-planning precinct of Curtin, Lemon Wedge House has two key public frontages that were carefully considered in the planning of this single-level courtyard home. While for some the direct proximity of the private living spaces to the pedestrian thoroughfare and community green spaces may be confronting, the spirit of community that this planning type fosters, as well as the passive surveillance that it enables, is as relevant today as it was in the 1960’s.
This is a small group architecture tour developed by DESIGN Canberra, in line with current COVID-safe restrictions. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential.
Tour 1: 10.00 to 10.40am
