Dr Alex Ritchie and the Antarctic Fossil Expedition of 1970

Community Event Exhibition and Shows

15 Aug 2018

Visitors to the NSW town of Canowindra will be familiar with the Age of Fishes Museum, showcasing the ancient discoveries Alex Ritchie and his Australian Museum team made uncovering the area’s 370 million year old freshwater ocean. In 1970, Ritchie was asked to accompany an expedition to Antarctica when similar prehistoric fossils were discovered, and his findings helped piece together the puzzle explained as Continental Drift. Now retired in the Canberra suburbs, Ritchie joins us for a discussion and to share his previously unseen 16mm footage of the voyage.
