Julie Bradley creates images of the spiritual connection to land through distilling her experiences and creating abstract evocations where memories and emotions are made visible. While these works reference actual places that Bradley has moved through and spent time in, the work remains abstracted and holds for her the essence of that landscape.
Working with collaged Japanese papers, gouache washes and line, Bradley plays with illusions of space and the formal elements of the image to create multilayered works on paper. Each image could be interpreted as both vast open space or a tiny microcosm. They exemplify artist’s abiding love of composition and colour.
Julie draws her inspiration from the lived experience of the land and also from the written work often referencing passages of poems, songs or stories in her artwork title with words promotion clear images in her mind’s eye.
