Exhibition: Avalanche

Exhibition and Shows

13 May 2021 to 3 Jun 2021 Once Only Event

PhotAccess, Manuka, is pleased to present an exhibition of photographic works from artist Sari Sutton: Avalanche.

Set in the ancient, dramatic Mt Kosciuszko region of the Australian Alps, Avalanche by Sari Sutton explores the unfamiliar psychological terrain of a world disrupted by pandemic and confronted by the intensifying impacts of global warming.

The rapid escalation and compression of climate and COVID-19 related events, coming to a head in 2020, for Australia and the world, are forcing a rethink of how we live in, and with, the natural environment. The images in this exhibition reflect upon the shock of disruption to our status quo – and the fragility and transience of what we often take for granted.

Dr. Kirsten Wehner, PhotoAccess Director, says of Avalanche: “Once again Sari, one of our most exciting early-mid career ACT photo-media artists, turns traditional landscape photography on its head, contesting the separation of viewer from scene and presenting a challenging feminist perspective on the raw, unforgiving country of the Australian Alps.”
