Being fully immersed in any task induces a feeling of groundedness and calm. The state of focus required when we are fully present, intent on what we are doing is something we can probably all recall from childhood. This state (sometimes called mindfulness) elicits a feeling of calm and connection. It makes us feel grounded in the present. It enhances our sense of well being.
At times like this, it seems counter-intuitive, but the best way we can take care of ourselves is to just take time out and give our minds a break. Meditation can be a difficult skill to learn, but when we focus fully on one task like moulding a piece of clay, it can have similar benefits.
This workshop offers a safe and welcoming space in which to enter into this zone. The state of Flow described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is one of intense focus which can lead to “… , a sense of clarity: you know exactly what you want to do from one moment to the other; you get immediate feedback,” It’s a place in which creativity can flourish.
Feed your mind and nourish your soul for a few hours in our Calm Clay Workshop. You will learn some skills as well and your creation will be fired for you to pick up a few weeks down the track.
