Nicola Dickson – ‘Voyagers’ Tales – Baudin’

Exhibition and Shows

23 Jul 2020 to 9 Aug 2020

Canberra artist Nicola Dickson presents works inspired by the expedition to Australia led by French naturalist Nicolas Baudin in 1800. A huge collection of plants, insects, birds and animals, and sketches of these, were brought back to France. Many of these items were acquired by Napoleon’s wife, the Empress Joséphine for her country residence, Château Malmaison. During a residency in Paris in 2017, Nicola had the opportunity to explore the Malmaison collection and historic archives. This exhibition attempts to convey a sense of the past ‘presences’ of birds and plants transported from Australia.
