Polyfest; the largest Maori and Pacific Island festival in the world has made its journey to the sunburnt country of Australia.
As Canberra’s first-time event and state competition, Polyfest Canberra’s secondary school students have joined forces to bring you an exciting showcase of Pacific Island cultures from the beautiful islands of Samoa, the Kingdom of Tonga, the Cook Islands and Aotearoa, New Zealand. Through traditional dance, costumes, song and instruments, performers will share stories of old both celebrating and expressing their identity and cultural heritage.
Participating school groups will compete for the coveted position of first place in either the Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, or Maori categories. From here, first place winners of the State competition will progress through to the National competition held in Canberra, June 2019. The winners from Nationals will furthermore move on to compete on an international stage at the World Championships in Hawaii 2020.
Bridging the past with the present, Polyfest is set to create a culturally guided movement for the future!
