Back by popular demand, legendary Australian blues guitarist/vocalist, Dom Turner returns to Tuggeranong Theatre with his southern US African-American outfit The Turner Brown Band. Their Tuggeranong gig forms part of the band’s seventh Australian tour and their first tour for 2020, and according to Dom Turner, is your chance to experience what happens when southern US Church-based ‘Sacred Steel’ music crashes head on with Australian blues-based sounds.
Recently hailed as “Australia’s darling of slide,” Dom Turner’s highly regarded outfit, blends gospel and blues in a marriage made in musical heaven, and offers a show with enough energy to rival a truckload of macro-nutrients (but far more entertaining) and a repertoire including bluesy versions of Amazing Grace and an interpretation of the Sam Cooke classic Change Gonna Come. Their charismatic stage presence together with their impeccable musicianship and outstanding vocal harmonies provides a taste of the Jewell Dominion Church music tradition, but with added flamboyancy.
Joining Dom and Nikki to create their uplifting southern American gospel/blues sound are Gloria Brown on rhythm guitar and vocals and Tomika Webb on drums and vocals. Tumut-based, 13-year-old Rory Phillips, an aspiring up-and-coming young guitarist/singer/songwriter will support.
