Cryptic Cities is a fun, outdoor activity that will challenge your minds and guide you on an adventure in Sydney.

Discover quirky laneways, tucked away treasures and historical highlights as you solve a series of cryptic clues, sent via text. Solve puzzles, follow clues and search out the answers that guide you to your next location.

Ideal for groups of two to four people, Cryptic Cities is suitable for all occasions: a fun day out with friends or family, team building with colleagues or a great idea for a date. There is even a special trail for kids (aged four to 10 years old).

Trails usually take between two to three hours (including breaks).

Discover the historic sites of Sydney… as you embark on this trail through The Rocks. 14 clues with two (optional) break stops.

Start location: Outside the front of Customs House, 31 Alfred Street, Sydney.

Start Time: Monday to Friday: 10.30am to 3.30pm; Saturday: 10.30am to 3.30pm; Sunday: 11am to 3.30pm (Note: Not available on public holidays and New Years Eve).

Duration: Two and a half to three hours.

Difficulty: Level 3 – Medium (adults).

Discover the hidden side of Sydney… on the Hidden Laneways daytime Trail. 13 clues with one break stop (Note: A lot of the clues are the same as the Hidden Laneways evening trail).

Start location: Corner of Alfred Street and Loftus Street (by Quay Bar, near Customs House, Sydney).

Start Time: Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 2.30pm; Saturday: 8.30am to 1pm; Sunday: 10.30am to 1pm (Excludes: Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day and Good Friday).

Duration: Two to three hours.

Difficulty: Level 3 – Medium (adults).

Start Time: Monday to Saturday: 4.30pm to 9pm (Note: This trail is not available on Sunday. It is also unavailable on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day).

Duration: two to three hours.

Difficulty: Level 3 – Medium (adults).

Start location: Outside the front steps leading up to the Town Hall, 483 George Street, Sydney.

Start Time: Monday to Sunday: 9.30am to 2pm (Note: Not available on Christmas Day, Good Friday, New Years Eve and New Years Day).

Duration: two to three hours.

Difficulty: Level 2 – Easy (adults).

Aimed at four to 10 year olds… the children are guided on a fun and educational day out in the Botanical Gardens. 10 clues with one break stop (after clue 5).

Start location: Outside Aria Restaurant, 1 Macquarie Street, Sydney.

Start Time: September to April: 7.30am to 3pm everyday; May to August: 7.30am to 2pm everyday. Not available: New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Duration: Approximately two hours (including one break stop, after clue five).
