Panboola Wetlands

Panboola Wetlands is a remarkable natural environment, located in the heart of the historic village of Pambula.

A stone’s throw from the bull-nosed verandas and tree lined street, you’ll find 77 hectares of tended and protected freshwater billabongs, salt marsh and grassy plains brimming with birdlife.

The wetlands are the focus of a long-running project to protect and restore this important flood plain for education and recreation – and it’s thriving.

There is a system of walking and cycling tracks, viewing platforms, tables and seats and information panels.

The wetland includes the former Pambula racecourse and shares its southwestern border with Ben Boyd National Park and other important coastal wetlands.

In 2019, Panboola Wetlands launched ‘Ephemeral Festival’, a biennial celebration of arts, creativity and nature.

The one-day festival features installations of art, music, workshops, craft demonstrations and stalls, inspired by the stunning natural landscape of Panboola and its surroundings.
