The Shoalhaven is home to the South Coast United Mountain bikers (SCUM), a sporting club that aims to foster mountain biking at both competitive and social levels within the region. The club has built and maintained several cross country trails, each with super fun singletrack. The trails are a combination of fast and flowing and some tight and technical. There are trail length options between 3 and 11kms; some can be linked to give more than 20km of superb single track and fire trail for the more adventurous.
Beginners can head to Cabbage Tree Lane for some flat and flowing trails with very few obstacles. ‘Cabbage’ is suitable for everyone but especially those that are keen to give mountain biking a go. To up the challenge, riders can head to Coondoo, Superbowl or Butterfly. All SCUM trails are family-friendly and loads of fun. Located within State Forests, all SCUM trails are managed under an occupancy permit with the NSW Forestry Corporation.
The State Forests around the area are awesome. As well as the SCUM trails there are multiple places to ride with many rugged fire trails, power-line easements as well as some great singletrack. Link them together, and you are in for a great ride. Whether you’re looking for a quick spin or a full day in the bush, come and ride with SCUM!
