Archibald Prize Regional Tour at Tweed Regional Gallery
Events South Murwillumbah, Tweed, New South Wales
5 Mar 2021 to 7 Mar 2021 Once Only Event
Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre is the first stop on the 2020 Archibald Prize Regional Tour.
Awarded to the best painting of a notable Australian, the Archibald Prize is a who’s who of Australian culture, from politicians to celebrities and from sporting heroes to artists. Prestigious and controversial, the Archibald Prize is Australia’s foremost portraiture prize. Now in its 99th year, the Archibald Prize has been held annually since 1921. An open competition, the Archibald Prize is judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW. Entries to the Archibald Prize must be painted in the past year from at least one live sitting. Finalists are exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales before embarking on a year-long regional tour.
Visit the exhibition to vote for your favourite portrait in the ANZ People’s Choice award before voting closes on 21 February and see the work of budding artists aged 5–18 in the Young Archies on display in the Gallery Foyer.
For families, there are also children’s labels, a children’s trail and an activity sheet with ideas for creating your own portraits at home.
This is a ticketed exhibition. Capacity limits will apply in this exhibition space.
Tickets are now available for purchase via the website.
