Armistice: Albury’s Armistice Celebration

Exhibition and Shows

5 Nov 2018 to 5 Apr 2019

At 7.30pm on Monday 11 November 1918, Alderman H.G. Davies appeared on the balcony of the Town Hall clutching a telegram addressed to the Daily News and shouted to the people on Dean Street that the Armistice had been signed and the war was over!

This exhibition examines life in Albury at the time of the Armistice. It looks at the immediate impact of war, peace and a soldier’s return home. Albury, like the rest of Australia, was no longer at war. World War One had significant impact on Albury and this display looks at the way the people celebrated, welcomed the returned soldiers and commemorated those that were lost.

Join them for the launch of the exhibition on Friday 9 November, 11am. Refreshments provided.
