Helena McConochie: Synaesthesia

Exhibition and Shows

7 Sep 2021 to 20 Sep 2021 Once Only Event

Sensory cross-over to form resonant visual symphonies

Helena McConochie’s latest body of work aims to draw attention to the condition Synaesthesia. Synaesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one sense, stimulates several. An individual may experience smell when observing colour or hear music when looking at numbers.

Experiences of observing art and painting may mimic this sensory cross-over. A particular flower or colourway may evoke powerful nostalgic experiences, flooding the viewer with memory held not only in imagery, but in the senses too.
