Kerry Toomey – Munduhii

Exhibition and Shows

12 Jun 2021 to 13 Jun 2021 Once Only Event

Kerry Toomey is the first winner of the Casula Powerhouse Aboriginal Scholarship Award, an award that was developed by CPAC and introduced to the Mil-Pra AECG Art Exhibition and Awards for the first time in 2020.

Kerry Toomey is a Gamilaroi woman from Pilliga, NSW. Munduhii (meaning ‘shoes’ in Gamilaraay, her language group) engages in the stories that wrap themselves around the feet, an essential part of each and everyone. For Toomey they represent her strong connection to Country and culture. They are inspired by stories of her family who grew up on the outskirts of Pilliga and incorporate emu feathers, quills and snakeskin that have been passed down to her.

The inaugural prize was sponsored by Dharug Strategic Management Group, an anonymous sponsor and the exhibition support is provided by Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.
