Fauré Requiem, Op. 48 (1889 version)
Other works by Debussy and Ravel.
Paul Dyer Conductor
Australian Brandenburg Orchestra
Like a lullaby, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem offers a tender, tranquil vision of a beautiful beyond. Gentle in style, the music cradles its audience with a sense of solace. Paris in the late 1800s was the cultural centre of the world. Many of the great impressionist painters worked in Montmarte and the Eiffel Tower was opened, as was the Moulin Rouge. Dating to 1889 this early version of Fauré’s masterpiece was first performed in La Madeleine in the city’s vibrant 8th arrondissement.
The score for small orchestra is notable for its unusual instrumentation. A yearning, searching sound comes from the dark voices of eight violas and four cellos but just a single violin. Upon this deep, mellow platform, our Brandenburg Choir and soloists will offer a sublime, soothing account of Fauré’s great work. The Requiem will be complemented by impressionist and Romantic works for small choir and orchestra by French masters Debussy and Ravel.
Single tickets to paradisum are available for purchase from 18 January 2022.
