Sashiko Mending Class: Upcycle Stitches

Classes, Lessons, Workshops and Talks

8 Feb 2020 to 29 Mar 2020

Do you have any unused fabric that’s been abandoned for a long time? Do you have any old clothes that you could use to make something different? If so, UpCycle Sashiko Mending Class can help you!

Originally, Sashiko was a practical mending technique in Japan and it reinforced clothing to be warm, strong and last longer. Nowadays Sashiko is popular with existing sewing lovers as its design is unique, traditional and beautiful that will remind you of “Art of Japan”.

In this class, you’ll be introduced to basic stitching techniques, then create your own design – whether you want to upcycle, repair or customise your clothing to make them a bit more jazzy.

Here are some popular examples;
– Patching a Sashiko fabric on your damaged jeans’ pocket or knee.
– Making a reusable cleaning wipe or hand towel with Sashiko stitches.
– Decorate your existing cushion cover by stitching Sahiko with your favourite fabrics.

Sashiko is one of the easiest and most fun needleworks that anyone can try. If you are interested in upcycling, this creative, eco-friendly and easy class is for you.
