Small Clay Bird Workshop and Curators Tour

Classes, Lessons, Workshops and Talks

12 Mar 2022 Once Only Event

Join Eden Unearthed’s artists Michelle Perrett and Christina Frank to craft your own small clay bird sculpture. Adults

This is a fundraising activity to raise money for Cancer Council NSW and learn more about art and the environment. What a great mix!

Artists Michelle Perrett and Christina Frank have made a work for Eden Unearthed which celebrates small native birds in our environment, and considers their vulnerability. In this garden workshop join Michelle and Christina as we take a walk, look and listen for birds, and see their installation, ‘Small Bird’. Inspired by this we will draw some small bird species, then make our own sculptures of small birds out of clay to take home.

Ceramic birds represent vulnerable small birds in our environment. Made of unglazed fired mostly white earthenware paperclay, they are laid on a collection of bush materials forming a nest, or it could be suggestive of a midden. The artists have attempted to represent small birds they were familiar with growing up in Sydney bush suburbs, but are now rarer. Included are Pardalotes, Superb Fairy Wrens, wee bills and scrub wrens.

The workshop will be followed by a tour of the exhibition with Curator Meredith Kirton, and the price includes afternoon tea.
