The Les Darcy Collection, Curator Talk with Cheryl Farrell

Community Event

18 Aug 2021 Once Only Event

Join Collection Curator Cheryl Farrell for an insightful look at MRAG’s Les Darcy collection and hear the stories behind the objects.

Les Darcy looms large in Maitland and boxing history, known as the Maitland Wonder in his seven-year career as a professional boxer, Les Darcy fought a staggering fifty times. He only lost four times, and never lost by knockout.

An exclusive Les Darcy cabinet of curiosities has been created from the MRAG collection for the Shadow Boxer exhibition. Included in the cabinet are some of Les’s precious and personal items donated to MRAG by Les’s family. Collection Curator Cheryl Farrell has not only curated the cabinet but has also collected first hand stories about the items and has a wealth of knowledge about Les, his life and career.

Register to attend one of three talks not to miss this unique opportunity to learn more about Les Darcy the Maitland Wonder.

The Shadow Boxer exhibition is supported by The Dobell Exhibition Grant, funded by The Sir William Dobell Art Foundation and Managed by Museums & Galleries of NSW.
