It was only after drastic floods in the nearby township of Terara in 1870 that Nowra became established in its own right. It is now a popular base for local adventure tour operators, including Shoalhaven Zoo, Trees Adventures, rock climbing and the Shoalhaven River Cruise.
Nowra has a number of historic buildings and houses dating from the Victorian era.
Be sure to check out the Fleet Air Arm Museum, which contains a wonderful display of military and civil aircraft.
Also, explore ‘Meroogal’, a historic, timber, gothic-style house with one of the most authentic 19th century interiors in New South Wales.
