Papunya is an Aboriginal community in Central Australia, home to 418 residents who are mainly Luritja speakers. Other language groups in Papunya include Pintubi, Warlpiri and Arrernte. Known locally as Warumpi, the community of Papunya is situated 240km northwest of Alice Springs.
The Papunya Community Store administers the running of 3 self-contained 2-bedroom units, as well as 4 dongas with single bed, shared bathroom and kitchen.
The store has a local board of directors and profits go back into the community.
The community is known as the home of the Warumpi Band and Tjupi Band, as well as the Papunya Tula Art Centre. Papunya ‘s artists are represented in most public galleries, major museums, institutions and many large private collections within Australia as well as overseas.
