Darwin skies will come alive with colour on Sunday July 9, for an inaugural Kite Flying Event on Mindil Beach sponsored by Ramada Suites Darwin Zen Quarter.
Hundreds of spectators are expected to line the shores for the free family event that is part of the Lion Beer Can Regatta, as kite flyers from The Adelaide Kite Flyers Association (AKFA) showcase their skills.
Massive handmade creations are expected to fill the skies, including a 14m great white shark, a 12m hammerhead shark, a 12m turtle, a 10m blue whale along with soaring geckos, fish, flying monkeys and rainbow spinning socks, all sure to delight visitors.
The dry season in Darwin between May and October offers the perfect conditions for kite flying and we hope the event will spark a trend to hold a regular kite event in our beautiful city. Our famous Beach sunsets would be the perfect backdrop,
“We are thrilled to be sponsoring this wonderful family event,” said Michael Anthony, Director of Ramada Suites Darwin Zen Quarter.
Kite displays will be from 10am to 5pm
