K’gari (Fraser Island) camping, Great Sandy National Park

Caravan, Camping and Holiday Parks

Long beaches, dramatic coloured-sand cliffs, natural sandblows, rocky headlands and pristine freshwater lakes and streams are some of K’gari (Fraser Island’s) spectacular natural features.

Growing on seemingly infertile sands are a great variety of plant communities ranging from coastal heath, mangrove forests and swamps to subtropical rainforest.

The many archaeological remains found on K’gari record thousands of years of culture and tradition, and provide important links to their past for the Butchulla people.

There are 45 camping areas on K’gari (Fraser Island) in Great Sandy National Park. All camping areas have capacity limits and may become booked out, especially during peak holiday periods. To avoid disappointment, book early—bookings are available six months in advance.

Camping permits are required, and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite. Book your campsite and purchase your camping permit in advance. Bookings can be made on-line, over the counter or by phone.

Vehicle access permits must be purchased for every vehicle before arriving on K’gari (Fraser Island).
