Avenue of Heroes

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

This heritage listed Heroes’ Avenue features 140 bottle trees as a tribute to the fallen soldiers from the Roma District who lost their lives in the First World War.

The planting began in 1918 with each tree now displaying its own remembrance plaque. Each Anzac Day, a wreath is placed on each tree. Although in many cases no remaining relatives of the fallen now live in Roma, a community group or citizen has taken the responsibility of placing these wreaths.
