This heritage-listed tourist attraction runs family friendly tours, seven days a week highlighting 116 years worth of Brisbane’s most notorious prison. Between the stories of riots, strikes, Tripod the Cat and Slim Halliday, Gaol Shop souvenirs and podcast stories, there is something for everyone. We also offer incredible experiences including live re-enactments and former officer and prisoner tours.

Learn of the jail-breakers who breached the escape-proof walls of No.2 Division, including where Slim Halliday “The Houdini of Boggo Road” escaped in 1940, and where the very first men escaped over the red brick wall.
Boggo Road Gaol is Queensland’s most notorious, historic prison. Opening in 1883, it was the home to many locally-known criminals and became the scene of riots, protests, strikes and even capital punishment.

The MA15+ Officer & Prisoner Tour is a speciality tour taken by a real-life ex-prisoner and ex-officer of Boggo Road Gaol. Get the first-hand experience recaptured, learn the ways of the Boggo inmates and the Boggo wardens and immerse yourself in this piece of Queensland’s history.

Step back into the early 1900s and experience the history of Queensland’s most notorious prison, Boggo Road Gaol (Jail) through live re-enactments and a guided tour.
This special event will combine our History Tour and live re-enactment to bring the gaol (jail) to life.
Take on a prisoner identity and join the Female Division in the yards and for rollcall. You will see the day-to-day duties in the early 1900s including sweeping, scrubbing, shoe shining, lining up and more!
