Burleigh Head National Park

National Parks and Reserves

Discover a wild, natural headland in the heart of the Gold Coast that offers walks along the rocky foreshore and through rainforest and sea-eagles soaring along the coast. Ancient volcanic columns meet the sea in this park, which features rainforest, eucalypt forest, pandanus groves, tussock grassland, coastal heath and mangroves. Its northern side is one of Australia’s most famous surfing point breaks.

Walk the Ocean view walk around the rocky headland from Tallebudgera Creek and see the tumbled masses of six-sided basalt columns. Explore the Rainforest circuit, wander through a living museum of plants, and watch for humpback whales from Tumgun lookout in winter and spring. Note that access to the cliff line boulder fields, including Cannon Rock, and the steep slopes between the Oceanview track and boulder fields are prohibited as the area has been declared a restricted access area for visitor safety. Always stay on the formed walking tracks. Look for Australian brush-turkey nesting mounds, seabirds and water dragons as you walk. Picnic on Burleigh foreshore or relax on Echo Beach.
