Frankland Islands Reef Cruises

Adventure and Outdoors Tours

Frankland Islands Reef Cruises is an exclusive Cairns Great Barrier Reef island day tour. It starts with a rainforest river cruise, followed by the shortest open water crossing of any of the Cairns day tour boats, to put you right on the Great Barrier Reef.

Their destination is Normanby Island in the beautiful Frankland Islands National Park. Surrounded by vibrant fringing reefs, it’s home to many species of marine life, including turtles, octopus and the ever-popular anemone clownfish, Nemo. You have up to 4.5 hours to explore and enjoy this natural paradise, above and below the water. They’re the only commercial operator with a permit to visit these pristine, uninhabited islands, with a maximum of 100 people per day.

Your day includes coach transfers from Cairns CBD accommodation, a guided snorkel tour, a guided island walk (including a kids’ treasure hunt) and a buffet lunch. Optional activities include our adventure snorkel safari, or grab a kayak or stand-up paddleboard and explore.

Services

From $129 to $219

Your tour starts as you board an air-conditioned coach and drive past rainforest-clad mountain ranges and tropical farmland. Take in the scenery on a 30-minute river cruise, keeping an eye out for crocs! After a short open water crossing you’ll arrive at Normanby Island, where you can snorkel straight from the beach and see a wide variety of colourful coral and tropical fish. Follow giant turtles as they glide through the water.

Explore at your leisure, or join our crew and Master Reef Guides for a guided snorkel tour to see the best of the island’s fringing reefs. On our adventure snorkel safari you can discover the coral gardens and diverse wildlife on the island’s western shore. On land, our marine biologist will lead you on an island walk – spy marine life in the rock pools and explore the coastal rainforest with its birdlife.

Kayaks and paddleboards are available, and certified divers can venture further into the surrounding coral reefs.

A tropical buffet lunch and morning and afternoon tea are included, with a licenced bar and snacks available on board.
