National Parks and Reserves

Hardy Reef is located about 80 kilometres east from the Whitsundays mainland town, Airlie Beach. It is home to the most photographed reef, Heart Reef.
Visitors usually travel there by boat, which takes approximately two hours, or on a 30 minute flight on a helicopter or seaplane.

Hardy Reef is also home to the Reefworld Pontoon. There is spectacular fish life with Trevally, Coral Trout, Snapper and a host of smaller marine life as well as Giant Maori Wrasse and a two metre long Giant Queensland Groper that usually congregate for a free feed. Snorkelling is excellent, as is diving off nearby drop-offs where you’ll find turtles, reef sharks and barracuda amongst a myriad of other intriguing reef species.

Visitors can take a day trip to Hardy Reef from Airlie Beach or one of the resort islands.
