Learn about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast on this engaging walking tour of the renowned Burleigh Headland. You will begin your trek around the Dreaming Mountain, Jellurgal, with an ochre anointment. This important ancient ceremony is performed by a traditional custodian of the Yugambeh Language Group who will bless you with a safe journey.

During the trek around the mountain, participants will discover sites used by the Yugambeh speaking people, including an ancient midden. Discover facts about traditional life, bush tucker, fishing and hunting and learn about the important ecological practices and connection to the land displayed by the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years. The sharing of one of the Gold Coast’s oldest Dreamtime Stories, ‘The creation of Jellurgal’, is a highlight.

The Jellurgal Walkabout tour takes approximately 2 hours.

Immerse yourself in Aboriginal culture with a guided tour of the “Dreaming Mountain”, Jellurgal, followed by a live Aboriginal dance performance.

Beginning with an audio/visual presentation followed by an Ochre Ceremony with ochre sourced from the mountain itself, you will learn about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast, meet a traditional custodian and hear the Dreamtime stories associated with the creation of Jellurgal.

Children can explore the magic of the “Dreaming Mountain”, Jellurgal (Burleigh Headland), with an art workshop and guided walk and activities.

This special school holiday event is aimed at primary school aged children from 5 – 12 years of age and consists of an Aboriginal art workshop and short guided walk from Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre to Burleigh Head National Park and Tallebudgera Creek, where numerous significant sites and environmental features have played an important part in the lives of the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years.

You will learn about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast, meet a traditional custodian and hear Dreamtime stories associated with Jellurgal.

Tour price includes art workshop and activity book for children to fill in on their walk. Both items can be taken home at the end of the tour.
