Outback Date Farms is an Australian, family run enterprise based in Charleville, Queensland. Inspirational farmer Mark Hampel realised a long term dream when he established the plantation in 2014. At present there are 450 palms, growing delicious eating dates. An innovative irrigation system utilises Charleville’s waste water in an environmentally responsible manner. Check out the Outback Oasis wetlands that have been created recently. Farm tours are available April to October. Participants learn about the history of dates, how they are grown and harvested, and the incredible health benefits of this superfood. Fresh dates are available onsite for sampling and purchase. The farmer delivers information in an entertaining manner, with a sprinkling of anecdotes and jokes. His wife’s home-cooked date loaf morning tea has proven to be very popular!
