White water rafting on the Barron River is the ideal tour for those keen to try rafting for the first time or for those wanting an action packed half day tour.

Located only 20 minutes from Cairns, the Barron River is easily accessible and is popular with self drivers, alternatively return transfers from your Cairns accommodation are also available if you’d rather sit back and enjoy the scenic drive.

When you get to the river you’ll meet your highly trained river guide and receive a comprehensive safety briefing followed by some on-water paddling instructions and techniques. Then it’s time to the hit the water!

The first couple of rapids give you the opportunity to get the hang of things before you hit the larger rapids including the infamous Rooster Tail – don’t forget to paddle hard before it’s time to get down and hold on tight!

Once you catch your breath, enjoy a refreshing swim through some of the smaller protected rapids or just kick back and admire the stunning scenery.

On arrival at our take point you have use of our nearby change facilities and can enjoy a tea or coffee while viewing photos of your afternoon’s adventure.

Relax on the scenic drive south before arriving in Tully, one of Australia’s wettest towns and home of some epic white water rafting!

You’ll have the chance to grab a bite before heading to the top of the river, here you’ll be fitted out in your rafting gear and given a full safety briefing by your highly trained river guide.

Once in the raft you’ll receive additional training on rafting techniques and paddling commands before it’s time to hit the white water! The first big rapid you’ll encounter is Alarm Clock, rightly named because it will definitely wake you up!

Tackling these grade 3 & 4 rapids, you’ll see pretty quickly how the Tully earned it’s reputation for awesome rafting and why it was selected as the river for the 2019 IRF World Rafting Championships!

Your tour includes an afternoon of rafting and afterwards we head to the Feluga Hotel, the Tully home of Raging Thunder for a hearty pub dinner with your guide and crew while comparing stories and immersing yourself in a living history of Raging Thunder from the early 1980’s.
