Reeforest Adventure Tours has operated in Mackay since 1986 and Col and Jenny Adamson have owned and operated the tour business from 1994. A variety of tours operate from Mackay and Airlie Beach to Eungella National Park, Mackay City, Cape Hillsborough National Park, Pioneer Valley, Nebo and the Mining Trail to the hinterland and the highly acclaimed Farleigh Sugar Mill Tour along with the Paddock to Port tour and our new tour Kangaroos on the beach. All their tours include meals except their two hour City tour. All their tours are informative and entertaining Reeforest Adventure Tours also operate a variety of package holidays around Australia, such as Cape York, Western Australia, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns just to name a few. The coaches they use to travel are safe, air-conditioned and vary from 14 to 46 seaters.

Eungella

From $130 to $320

This tour operates Wednesdays and Sundays and other days on request.

Journey to Eungella National Park’s Broken River to see platypus in their natural habitat as they feed. Then over to the ‘Finch Hatton Hilton’ to have a cooked lunch in Reeforest’s private bush camp. Then visit the beautiful Auralun Falls and a walk around the rainforest with a interpreted guided talk about the area and a swim. Back to Mackay around 6.30/7pm.

Mackay City Tour

Depart from the Blue Water Quay at the end of Brisbane Street adjacent to Paxton’s Warehouse. Your journey begins touring the Mackay Central Business District looking at heritage listed and Art Deco buildings (some are listed with the Heritage Trust of Queensland), such as the Uniting Church in Macalister Street. Travel along River Street where the boats come to pick up and drop off supplies to locals. Your guide will tell you stories of the various buildings and places of interest like the Old Town Hall and McGuires Hotel, then you will travel over the Pioneer River on your way to the Mackay Harbour where you will drive along the break wall overlooking the Marina with the expensive boats that are docked there and the restaurants that are aligned along the water front. Your guide will tell you all about the Marina and the Mackay Port, where nibbles and drinks will be enjoyed, before travelling back to the City Heart. You might like to have dinner in one of the restaurants that you saw on the city drive.

Kangaroos on the beach

With an early morning start. Travel to Cape Hillsborough to see the Kangaroos on the beach at sunrise. After having a tea/coffee with the Kangaroos the tour will take you for a drive to Haliday Bay and Ball Bay if time permits to have a look and you may see some more Kangaroos and curlews. You will then be ready for breakfast which will be served at the Old Station Tea House at Cape Hillsborough after breakfast you will return to Mackay.

This is an unforgettable experience with Australian native wildlife. This is the home of the Bare Foot Bushman and his family who operate 175 acres of coastal lagoons and grazing land. You will have hands on experience with native wildlife, such as feeding the cassowary, to learning about Australian snakes, holding pythons, lizards, cuddle a Koala and hand feeding Kangaroos. From here you will then visit the big crocodiles where they will hand feed them. Return back to camp central for lunch and you may hold other little critters that they have at the farm.

If you’re curious about how a sugar mill works and how sugar cane is turned into sweet and yummy sugar, then a Paddock to Port tour is for you, stopping off at a working cane farm and see harvesting up close. Then it is off to the Farleigh Sugar Mill tour with morning tea. Lunch will be served at the Farleigh Tavern overlooking the mill and cane fields, then it is off to see the refinery and the largest sugar storage in the world. Long sleeve shirt to wrist, long pants to ankle and closed shoes are mandatory on this tour.
