The Rockhampton Art Gallery is currently closed. Rockhampton Art Gallery will remain closed to the public as it transitions to the new Rockhampton Museum of Art, which is due to open in early 2022. Although we are closed to the public, we will still be hard at work behind the scenes preparing the collection for the move and future operations.
Situated along the Fitzroy River in the heart of Central Queensland, Rockhampton Art Gallery was established in 1967.
The Gallery’s permanent collection tracks Australia’s modernist movement and with artworks by luminaries such as Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, Russell Drysdale, John Brack and Fred Williams amounts to one of the most significant collections in regional Australia.
Works by Del Kathryn Barton, Daniel Boyd, Sally Gabori, Imants Tillers and Ben Quilty are representative of the Gallery’s continuing tradition of incorporating a progressive collection with consideration of contemporary influences from across the globe.
A diverse exhibition program runs throughout the year with displays drawn from the Gallery’s permanent collection, in-house curated projects and touring exhibitions from international, national, state and regional galleries.
For a truly immersive art experience, Rockhampton Art Gallery offers innovative education and public programs to visitors of all ages, from toddlers to lifelong learners, and a must-visit gift shop for artisan made giftware.
The Gallery is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council.
