Ipswich has a new farm-gate shop luring visitors and especially food lovers.
Lorraine and Bernie Mahon at Watercress Creek Olives and Limes have been regulars at local markets with their range of bottled olives and oils, but have now added a dedicated shop on the farm.
Visitors can browse shelves lined with infused oils, vinegars, tapenades and jams – all made on site next to the olive grove and lime orchard.
Watercress Creek produces manzanilla, arbequina, kalamata, jumbo kalamata and frantoio olives and the lime orchard continues to produce more every year as the orchard matures and more trees are added.
Specialties include a ‘bruschetta spread’ and whole figs preserved in a rich balsamic syrup. The figs are grown on site and also go into a sweet luscious jam.
The Mahons have created garden settings around their new shop and hope to eventually include a coffee machine and morning tea menu.
The Watercress Creek Olives and Limes shop is open by appointment.
Pine Mountain, home to myriad birds and flora, including century-old hoop pines, is a scenic 15 minute drive from the Ipswich central business district.
