From there we strike out to the inner edge of the Reef and Green Island, a 6,000 year-old coral sand island that boasts its own native rainforest eco-system. Tracking to the north, we explore the western side of Arlington Reef, home to a diverse range of marine creatures – turtles, sharks and sting rays.
Continuing north we’ll circle Vlasoff Cay a tiny sand island in the middle of the reef that reduces to only a few hundred square metres in size at high tide. This 40-minute reef scenic helicopter flight is their most popular product. By extending the flight by another 10 minutes, they take in all the highlights of the 30-minute product, but extend the flight path out to the east, passing Green Island and tracking to the outer edge of Arlington Reef – one of the largest reefs in the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. They traverse the very edge of the reef pushing toward the edge of the Australian continental shelf where the water clarity is unsurpassed, and the ocean floor drops away to over 1,000 feet.
The additional time allows us to push further north past sandy Vlasoff Cay and on to the outer reaches of the Reef to provide their guests with the ultimate reef experience. The colours and textures of the reef and clear blue waters framed by the massive North Queensland skies provide unforgettable backdrops for the keen photographer to capture once in a lifetime images. Their local pilot/guides provide informative commentary and insights into the history of the reef, its abundance of marine inhabitants.

Their 20-minute Cairns rainforest scenic tour provides a ‘taste’ of this incredible World Heritage-listed natural region. Cairns sits on a floodplain to the south of the mouth of the mighty Barron River. The Barron’s headwaters start in the Mount Hypipamee National Park at an elevation of 3,900 ft. The river flows 65 kilometres across fertile volcanic soils of the Atherton Tablelands and then journeys through the quaint village of Kuranda before cascading down the 850 foot high Barron Falls and moving across the Cairns floodplains out into the Coral Sea.
The Barron Gorge is an impressive natural feature carved out of the Great Dividing Range and the Falls at its head are intimidating to behold when in full flight during the tropical wet season. This scenic helicopter flight tracks up through the Barron Gorge up to and over the Barron Falls, passing the over the world-famous Skyrail Rainforest Cableway where it spans the river and around the village of Kuranda before turning for the coast and descending over the lush eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range on the return leg with panoramic views over Cairns city and out to the Reef.
