Afrekete is the Ocean Mother energy of the Arara Tradition. Originally from Dahomey region in present day Benin, this culture came to Cuba with the slaves. Afrekete is also Australia’s unique Cuban Dance and Music cultural event where Afro-Cuban folklore is celebrated over a whole weekend on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Come and experience a real piece of Cuba in Tugun! Starting with an Opening Ceremony with cultural exchanges from local Indigenous knowledge holders and Afro-Cuban ritual dancers and drummers and continues with a whole weekend of dance and music workshops in the history of Cuba, with an Opening Night Cuban Cabaret featuring performances by Cuba’s best dance and music maestros. Feel the heartbeat of Cuba and let the rhythm move you.
