Brisbane Writers Festival

Festivals and Celebrations

7 May 2021 to 9 May 2021 Annual Event

The Brisbane Writers Festival is back in. Back in after a challenging year in which they were unable to hold onsite, in person events. They are back in with a great program of authors, poets, artists and thinkers. They are back in with stories that speak to our past, present and future. They are back in with all that makes the Brisbane Writers Festival a brilliant celebration of the written and spoken word.

This year their program includes many local literary luminaries. Queensland has produced many extraordinary writers and inspired many wonderful Australian stories. Brisbane Writers Festival has an important role in supporting that cultural legacy.

In the lead up to their 60th anniversary in 2022, they have introduced a number of new initiatives, including the hybrid digital and in-person program; their First Word/Last Word events, which invite an Indigenous artist of note to deliver the opening and closing words of the festival; and their Author/Editor Series which puts authors and their editors in conversation to discuss their professional relationship through the process of publishing from ideation to printing.

And there is more to come. On closing night they will be announcing some exciting upcoming initiatives and programs that will be integrated into their 60th anniversary Festival in 2022.
