Hatha Yoga

Classes, Lessons, Workshops and Talks

7 Jan 2019 to 25 Feb 2019

Yoga means union or joining, while ‘ha’ means sun and ‘tha’ means moon; thus ‘Hatha Yoga’ is the uniting of two opposing energies. Another description of ‘Hatha’ Yoga is ‘ha’ meaning prana, or vital force and ‘tha’ meaning mind, thus it is the harmonising of the body and the mind through specific practices.

This class follows a traditional classical yoga class format, teaching the wholeness that yoga has to offer. These classes are suitable for all levels and are a good transition after the Beginners Course. Hatha yoga combines postures with conscious breathing and focus to develop strength, flexibility, body awareness and mental clarity. Students will explore cleansing practices (shatkarma), physical postures (asana), breath control (pranayama) and various locks and seals in the body (bandas and mudras) to direct the flow of prana and harness the energy of the body to cultivate a higher level of consciousness. These classes are taught by Emily Curtis who was trained by Acharya Upendra Roy in Sydney.
